Jack Cassidy Wins The Voice Battle Of ‘Dancing On My Own’ But Hunter Plake Is Stolen By Gwen Stefani
By Shawn Rice
Jack Cassidy battled it out with Hunter Plake on a duet of “Dancing on my Own” by Robyn on The Voice. Alicia Keys said that they were able to showcase their uniqueness. Alicia chose Jack as the winner and to remain on her team. However, both Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine pressed their buttons to try to steal Hunter.
Hunter chose to join Team Gwen.
Gwen said Jack had some beautiful spots in his voice. She said that Hunter should make a record because he is so emotional when he sings. Adam expected greatness from Jack and said that he was completely drawn in from the first note sung by Hunter. Adam said he felt things hearing Hunter sing. Blake Shelton said that he was flip flopping on both singers because they were doing such cool stuff.
In their practice, DJ Khaled said that Jack could go further. He told Jack to go to church because this is his time.
Jack comes from a family of professional entertainers. His father, Patrick Cassidy, and grandmother, Shirley Jones, are most notable, but his generation was discouraged from performing. At age seven, he joined his dad on tour and belted out songs in the car – to his parents’ surprise and delight. He later played piano and during high school participated in mission trips to Uganda and the Dominican Republic, where he played music and sang with children.
Hunter was influenced by church and music from a young age by his family. His dad was in the Christian rock band Brother Brother and he’s been leading worship since he was 14. “The Voice” is his first time performing outside of church. Recently married, he records demos with his brother in his home studio. He lost his home, church and car after the Baton Rouge floods and is currently living with his parents in Lafayette, helping repair the church in his spare time.
