Jesse Larson Wins The Voice Battle Of ‘Shameless’ Against Taylor Alexander To Stay With Adam Levine
By Shawn Rice
Jesse Larson and Taylor Alexander sung “Shameless” by Billy Joel on The Voice. Adam Levine believed he saw something in them. He was impressed by Taylor doing his own thing. Adam thought Jesse was really gifted. Adam chose Jesse as the winner of the battle and to remain on his team.
Blake Shelton thought it was a great performance. He felt Taylor had more work to step it up and that Jesse had to step up even more. Blake was impressed by Taylor. Alicia Keys said that Jesse had a unique style. Gwen Stefani thought they were both their own characters. She said Taylor was the perfect cowboy and that Jesse could blow the roof off. She chose Jesse.
In their practice, John Legend told Taylor not to use to much of his twang. John also advised on Taylor’s tones and told Jesse to step back from the mic to not warble the words.
What did you think of the battle round? Let us know in the comments section.
Taylor’s musical interests stem from his dad’s interest in opera and musical theater. In 10th grade, he started to get into folk music, and at 18, he and his friends formed an alternative country band called Young America. After touring for six years, the band fell apart and Taylor moved to Nashville, busking for grocery money more times than he’d like to admit. After three years in Nashville, Taylor finally has some steady gigs.
Jesse’s father was his biggest influence and introduced him to classic blues at a young age. After his father suddenly died of a heart attack, he began to lose his drive and considered quitting music. Then he got a call to audition for Prince. After many auditions, he got the opportunity to play for Judith Hill, whom Prince was producing. After Prince’s sudden death, the tour was canceled, but the experience reignited Jesse’s passion for music.
