Mysterious Sea Creature Washes Ashore In Indonesia and Terrifies the Internet
By Erica Abbott
A mysterious sea creature that washed ashore in Indonesia has completely baffled and horrified the internet. While some have reported that the dead creature is more than likely a whale, the terrifying-looking carcass has completely engrossed social media users.
“A giant unidentified dead thing is decomposing off the coast of the Indonesian island of Seram and nobody knows what it is,” Nick Andersen, associate producer of On Point radio, tweeted. The tweet included two photos of the decomposing carcass. Snopes reports that the creature is a whale, but social media users weren’t as convinced. Was it a giant squid of nightmares? A kaiju? Spongebob Squarepants-inspired Alaskan Bull Worm?
The world may never know.

Villagers initially thought the bloodied creature was a stranded boat, but realized, upon further examination, that is was likely a squid or whale. A coordinator of Indonesia’s Marine and Coastal Resources Management later said that the 50-foot creature was likely a whale. According to The Telegraph, further testing will confirm the species.

Clearly the people of the Indonesian island of Seram are unfamiliar with the work of Guillermo Del Toro.
